English Resources

To understand how and why this English Resources List exists, let me tell you a bit about my story.

I started learning English when I was in Year 4, and I remember my first-ever English homework vividly. I was over the moon, excited to dive into this new language. Even at that young age, I was intrigued by English and wanted to learn more, though I didn’t yet realise how big a role it would play in my life.

By the time I reached secondary school, my curiosity had grown. At 15, I started reading books in English, a milestone that broadened my understanding of the language. However, things didn't always go smoothly. The passive voice gave me a hard time in high school—it was tricky to learn. Debates in class were another struggle. I was too shy to speak and spent most of my high school years staying quiet in English lessons. Looking back, I should have tried harder. Avoiding speaking held me back, and it’s not something I’d recommend to anyone.

Listening comprehension was another challenge. For three years, I struggled to keep up with fast-paced conversations in movies or videos. What finally remotivated me was getting bad grades. After a year of poor results, I was frustrated with myself and this frustration became my motivation to keep going - I started to really work hard, and over time, it got better.

Years and a few trips later, I’ve come a long way. I’m now able to speak English and even achieved a C1 Level in the Cambridge Exam. Learning English not only helped me communicate but also boosted my confidence and gave me a better understanding of myself and my capabilities.

It’s important to remember that learning English—or any language—takes time. You won’t become fluent overnight. Here are my 3 Rules for Success; be consistent, immerse yourself in the language, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. They’re an essential part of the process!

Additional Resources

Below, you’ll find some resources on both the United Kingdom and the United States.

A lot of the resources focus on the Royal Family because I’m a huge fan of The Crown. I thought they might be helpful if you’re watching the show or even working on it. Some of these could really guide you through the details!

I also included resources to learn about US geography. It’s really handy since the US is a country we often hear about in the news. Although I’ve never been there, I love exploring its vastness from the comfort of my room.
